and Ialuronic acid

Among the cutaneous signs that accompany the evolution of the skin’s aging processes (chronoaging and photoaging), loss of tone, firmness and the appearance of the first lines on the face prompt the use of dermo-esthetical treatments or skin fillers.

These changes in the skin depend on several factors, among them the progressive reduction of the amorphous and fibrous component of the derma determined by the slackening of activity of fibrolasts and aggravated by enviromental factors such as exposure to the sun, smoking, stress and other exogenous and endogenous sources of free radicals.

The average concentration of Ialuronic acid is 200mg/kg (0,02%). So a human body weighing 60 kg contains about 12 gr of Ialuronic acid. Although its concentration is higher in connective tissue, most of the body’s Ialuronic acid, 56% (7gr), is found in the skin.

For this reason, the progressive reduction of the content of Ialuronic acid — which impoverishes the amount of water at dermo-epidermic level — is seen as the cause of the progressive deficit of the dermic matrix’s capacity to “mantain and support” the integrity of collagenous and elastic fibres, with a consequent loss of the skin’s viscoelastic properties.

After the deterioration of collagen and elastic fibres, support fibres, there follow visible damages like the appearance of so-called cutaneous sagging, the formation of hollows and so of the first expression lines.
